How It Works

At Smart MRI, we strive to make the process of getting an MRI scan as seamless and stress-free as possible. Our step-by-step guide below will help you understand what to expect from the moment you receive a referral to the delivery of your results.

Step 1: Referral

Get a Referral from Your Physician: To begin the process, you will need a referral from your primary care physician or specialist. This ensures that the MRI scan is medically necessary and that we have all the relevant information to provide you with the best care. If you do not have a referral or you are referring yourself, we can help you get a referral from a private doctor at an additional fee. If you are self-referring, please complete our secure online referral form .

Submit Your Referral:

• Online: Upload your referral form through our secure online portal.
• Email: Send a copy of your referral to refer@smartmri.co.uk.

Step 2: Booking

Schedule Your Appointment: Once you submit your referral, you can be able to book your appointment on the next available slot or you can call our booking team on +44 7880 9549952.

Flexible Scheduling: We offer flexible scheduling options, including early morning, evening, and weekend appointments to accommodate your busy lifestyle.

Step 3: Preparation

Pre-Scan Instructions: Before your scan, you will receive detailed instructions on how to prepare. Generally, you can eat and take medications as usual unless otherwise instructed. Remove all metal objects, including jewelry and watches, before your scan.

Arrival: Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment to complete any necessary paperwork and change into a gown if required.

Step 4: Scanning

The Scanning Process:

• Check-In: Upon arrival, our friendly staff will guide you through the check-in process and answer any last-minute questions.
• Preparation: You will be asked to lie down on the MRI table, which will then slide into the MRI machine. Our 1.5 Tesla MRI machine is designed to minimize discomfort and noise.
• During the Scan: The scan typically takes between 30 to 60 minutes. You will need to stay still to ensure clear images. You will have a panic button to communicate with the technologist if you feel uncomfortable at any time. We also provide earplugs or headphones with music to make the experience more pleasant.

Step 5: Results

Radiologist Analysis: After your scan, our expert radiologists will analyze the images and prepare a detailed report. This process typically takes 24 to 48 hours.

Receiving Your Results:

• Direct Delivery: Your results will be sent to you or directly to your referring physician via secure electronic means. They will contact you to discuss the findings.
• Patient Portal: You can also access your results through our secure online patient portal.

Follow-Up: Your referring physician will review the MRI results with you and discuss the next steps in your care plan. If you have any questions or need further clarification, our team is available to assist you.
